Hi, I'm Mary Alice!

I'm passionate about working with survivors of childhood trauma and helping them to learn to love their bodies, stop obsessing about food and heal from the past!

Mary Alice Reilly (she/her)- Trauma and EMDR Therapist

I am a licensed therapist in MD and DC dedicated to supporting adults who are navigating perfectionism, overfunctioning, burnout, and low self-worth.

Many of my clients come to therapy struggling with anxiety (social and generalized), depression, OCD, neurodivergence, complex trauma, or identity-based distress. Most are seeking help because they feel stuck in unwanted patterns or pain. Because your lived experience is unique, I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I tailor our work by weaving together approaches from multiple therapeutic modalities—including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT). Together, we will work to reduce your distress, build resilience, and develop practical tools to break free from rigidity, stagnancy, or overwhelm that doesn't serve you.

Inclusivity & Affirming Care

I am deeply committed to providing LGBTQIA+ affirming, kink-aware, and sex-positive care. Whether you are actively exploring your gender identity, sexuality, or alternative relationship structures (like ethical non-monogamy and polyamory)—or you already firmly embrace these identities and simply want a therapist who understands without judgment—you are welcome here.

I also bring a deep awareness of how race, gender, class, body size, ability, and sociocultural background shape who we are. In our space, I strive to honor the full complexity of your identities and apply a culturally responsive lens that acknowledges the very real impact of systemic oppression on mental health.

My Path to Therapy

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in food access and food justice programs. Over time, I realized my favorite part of the work was the deep, human connections I made with clients, volunteers, and farmers. This passion for one-on-one support led me to social work as a second career. I earned my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2023 and have been working with adults across the DMV ever since. I have past clinical experience in treating substance use, harm reduction, chronic illness/pain,
